Gary was born in Cape Town in 1956 and matriculated at Krugersdorp high in 1973.
He is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand (BA.LLB) 1982.
Prior to coming to the bar he practised as an attorney . He joined the bar in 1992 and was awarded the status of Silk in 2004.
His practice is essentially commercial with elements of administrative law.
Gary has extensive experience in the law and practice of arbitration, both in South Africa and internationally.
He also has extensive experience in relation to the law pertaining to engineering and construction contracts and infrastructure developments.
He contributed to the drafting of what has become one of the most widely used standard form building contracts in South Africa and has lectured extensively in the fields of arbitration law and the law pertaining to engineering and construction contracts.
Gary has featured in a number of reported cases, including some which have become prescribed reading for the degree LLB.
He has acted as a judge of the High Court on several occasions and continues to do so from time to time.
He is an accredited third party neutral with both the Association of Arbitrators (SA) and AFSA and regularly acts as arbitrator or adjudicator in commercial disputes.
Although he is based in Johannesburg, Gary conducts a dual practice, dividing his time between Johannesburg and Cape Town.
